BIRL은 기초연구팀, 제품개발팀, 임상연구팀 간의 긴밀한 협업을 통하여 실질적으로 의료현장에 적용 될 수 있는 연구를 목적으로 하고 있습니다. 이를 위하여 다양한 이식형 의료기기의 부작용인 섬유화 기전 및 관련 질병의 발병 기전에 대한 기초연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 기초/기전 연구결과는 다양한 기능성 소재 및 생체유래 재료와 융합되어 새로운 치료제 (아토피 피부염, 엑소좀 기반 치료제 등) 및 의료기기 (표면개질 및 약물탑재 의료기기, 무세포동종사체진피, 골재생 의료기기) 개발을 하고 있습니다. 최종적으로 이러한 혁신적인 연구 성과가 상용화 될 수 있도록 교원 창업을 통하여 기술사업화도 추진하고 있습니다. 기초 연구가 끝이 아닌 제품개발을 통해 임상현장까지 적용시킬 수 있는 기회를 갖고자하는 학생들의 많은 참여를 기다립니다.
